You wouldn’t eat poison knowingly, would you? Of course not. That would be a stupid thing to do, right? And yet, if you’re eating ultra-processed food, then you may be putting slow-acting poison into your body every day.
If you doubt what I’m saying, let’s take a look at the definitions of food and poison that come up on a Duckduckgo search and see if the food additives used in ultra-processed food can be categorised as food or poison.
FOOD
Material, usually of plant or animal origin, that contains or consists of essential body nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life.
POISON
A substance that causes injury, illness, or death, especially by chemical means.
So, we see that . . .
- . . . food additives are chemicals. They are not directly derived from plants or animals.
- . . . food additives do not contain nutrients.
- . . . food additives do not produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life.
- . . . many food additives have been shown to cause injury, illness, or death.
Conclusion: Food additives are not food. They are poison, and you should stop eating them RIGHT NOW!

In this video, Annette Reeder from thebiblicalnutritionist.com lists these 7 ingredients commonly found in ultra-processed food and details how they might be harming you.
- Artificial flavours. These have been shown to contribute to neurotoxicity, organ damage, reproductive toxicity, and cancer.
- Fractionated oils. (A.K.A. hydrogenated oils) The manufacturing process used to make fractionated oils leaves a high concentration of solid and unhealthy fat which is very toxic for humans. (For the least processed oils, try extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil.)
- MSG. This flavour enhancer is added to persuade you to eat more than your body needs. It can contribute to migraines, seizures, obesity, ALS, Parkinson’s, and infections.
- Potassium Benzoate (or sodium benzoate). This has been shown to damage DNA. It’s found in low-fat dressings, syrups, jams, and pickles.
- Artificial colours. These have been linked to cancer. In particular, Green 3 is linked to bladder cancer, Yellow 6 is linked to adrenal and kidney tumours, and Red 3 is linked to thyroid cancer.
- Acesulfame K and Sucralose. These are artificial sweeteners. Acesulfame K is linked to benign thyroid cancer (also this may be due to the methylene chloride used in the manufacturing process rather than to Acesulfame K itself).
- Potassium Sorbate. Annette Reeder’s advice is to ‘avoid this at all costs.’ It’s found in ice cream and baked goods.
Besides these 7, Annette suggests also avoiding these foods:
- Soy lecithin. This is what makes chocolate creamy. However, most soy these days is GMO.
- Polysorbate 80. This is a carcinogen found in some ice creams.
- Corn. Again, a lot of corn these days is GMO.
- Sodium Chloride. This is not true salt. It’s a chemical.
- Propyl Gallate. This is a preservative used in cereals.
If the above information is not enough to stop you eating ultra-processed foods, stop and think about WHY the food industry uses these ingredients. They are not concerned for your health. As Annette Reeder states: “Processed foods are created for one reason and that, besides the greed of the company, . . . they're created to create an addictive process in your body. You are being taught to eat these foods and to become addicted . . . so you can't eat just one. There's a science behind can't eat just one.”
As well as causing food addiction, these processed foods also train you NOT to like healthy food. As Annette says, “These foods that are lab experiments are created to create a sensation in your gut and in your mind so that you crave these foods. They over-sensitise your taste buds so that normal foods, broccoli, carrots, . . . celery are not going to have any good flavour for you.”
If you care about your health, go to your cupboard right now, find all the ultra-processed food in there, and throw it in the bin. Avoiding your favourite foods will be painful for a while. But as you take back control, the cravings will subside until they disappear. Your taste buds will be re-trained to appreciate good, healthy food. You will be at peace with your eating. And you’ll feel GREAT!
